2 more days

The deadline for sending submissions for our 2009 Paws for Charity Art Book is fast approaching. February 28th is the last day for sending your photos or artwork of dogs and/or cats. Our 2009 book will benefit breast cancer charity.

Hint: please don't wait for the last minute. If you're planning to send something, please send it now. I'm worried that my server will start bouncing files if everyone waits until the last minute.

The good news/bad news story is that I have received lots and lots of submissions. Why is this bad news? Because not everyone who sent something will get to be included. Why is this good news? Well, there are so many interested people who have sent so many great photos and art that this book is going to be AWESOME!

Benedetta Bozzo's Hope on Ebay

Benedetta Bozzo is an artist who created a new piece of art specially for our 2009 Paws for Charity Art Book. She entitled the piece "Hope" and has just listed the original work on Ebay. You can see the Ebay listing here.

The starting bid is only 9.99 with FREE shipping within the continental U.S. and NO RESERVE. She is accepting Paypal, money orders and Personal Checks. 50% of the final sale price will go to support the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. Art Book update

Our 2009 Art Book project is well underway! So far, we have 30 participants from Canada, US, UK, and France...16 artists and 14 photographers.

A couple of the artists have created paintings specifically for this project. One of the artists will be auctioning off her artwork with the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Fantastic! Stay tuned...as soon as she lists the artwork on ebay I'll let you know.

We're still looking for about 8 people who would like to be involved. If you know of a photographer or artist who features dogs and/or cats, pass the word along! We're hoping to receive all the submissions by February 28th.

Sneak peeks of the artwork coming soon!

Chilly Dogs Donation!

Chilly Dogs would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who purchased a Paws for Charity Chilly Sweater. Chilly Dogs was able to donate $503 to the Canadian Cancer Society - Breast Cancer Division from donations collected in 2008!

Our Paws for Charity goals for 2009 include supporting several Spanish Galgo rescue groups. We have listed a few Galgo Groups below, so please take a moment to learn more about these gentle Spanish greyhounds. SOS-Galgo, Scooby Medina.

Mari, our little Galgo has been with us for 1 year and she is a happy, lively little girl who only wants to be loved and cuddled. Chasing a few furry squirrels or rabbits would be a bonus! Thanks Sue from Urban Dog Photog for the great photos!

I am looking for up to 38 artists or photographers who are willing to contribute one jpeg file of a piece of art or photograph featuring a dog and/or cat. (copyright of the image remains with the artist)

Profits will be donated to a breast cancer charity.
Each page of the book will have one image and will include the name and contact information of the photographer/artist.
Copyrights of the images will remain with the contributors.

What do dogs and cats have to do with breast cancer?
I lost my mom to breast cancer when I was 21, and have had a few scares myself over the past 8 years. My first Paws For Charity project was selling Crunch for a Cure dog biscuits when I owned a dog biscuit company. I believe there is a very strong bond between people and their pets. In a nutshell, I use this project to tie the two things together.

What is the commitment required of participants?
1. submit a jpeg image (resolution 300 or higher) of your art/photo to email address
saraharley(at)ns(dot)sympatico(dot)ca
with Paws For Charity as your subject line.
Participants will be selected at the beginning of March. If your image is selected I'll need:
2. A brief bio with your image detailing: - your name - the website or blog address you would like published in the book - a square, black and white photo of yourself
3. contributors agree to include a Paws For Charity logo on their blog and/or website with a link to the Paws For Charity blog (this will be provided to you)
4. contributors agree to post an article on their blog about their participation in the project
5. contributors will be encouraged (but not required) to post articles on their blog about the other participants

What benefits will participants receive?
- all participants will be listed on the Paws for Charity blog, with links to their websites or blogs
- a separate blog post featuring each participant will be posted on two blogs: Paws for Charity and Dream Big
- articles about the project and participants will be sent to online ezines and hard copy magazines
- any known articles published will be communicated to all participants
- the completed book will be available at cost to all participants (however participants are not required to purchase any books)

Know someone?
If you know someone who may be interested in participating, please let them know about this project...the more, the merrier!

If you are interested in participating, please respond by February 14, 2009.
Artwork submissions will be required by February 28, 2009.

Final Selections:
Final selection of participants will be made by me on or before March 6, 2009.
